‘GOOLIGAN’ Android Malware: 1 Million Google Accounts Hacked

‘GOOLIGAN’ Android Malware: 1 Million Google Accounts Hacked

If you are going to buy a new smartphone, beware!!  A new Android Malware ‘GOOLIGAN’ is already breached more than a million Google accounts are infecting around 13,000 devise every day.
This Googlian malware roots vulnerable android devices to steal email address and authentication tokens stored on them.

With this information, the hackers are able to hijack your Google account and access your sensitive information like bank details …etc. from Google apps including Gmail, Google photos, Google Docs, Google Play, Google Drives and G Suite.

“Gooligan then download a rootkit from the C & C server that takes advantage of multiple Android 4 and 5 exploits including the well-known VROOT (CVE-2013-6282) and Towelroot(CVE-2014-3153)”  researchers said….
“If rooting is successful, the attacker has full control of device and can execute privileged commands remotely.”

Who is under attack?

According to Checkpoint security researches, who uncovered the malware, anyone running an older version of android operating system, including Android 4.x (jelly Bean, Kitkat) and 5.x (Lollipop) is most at risk, which represents nearly 74% of Android devices in use today. 57% of the total infected devices are located in Asia, 19% in America, 15% in Africa and 9% in Europe.

How to check if your Device is infected?

If you’ve been downloading apps from outside the official Google play store, then you should access Check point Software Technologies gateway.  It’s easy, just entering your email ID that’s linked with your mobile and it’ll instantly give you a feedback.

If your account has been breached, the following steps are required:

  1. A clean installation of an operating system on your mobile device is required (a process called “flashing”). As this is a complex process, we recommend powering off your device and approaching a certified technician, or your mobile service provider, to request that your device be “re-flashed.”
  2. Change your Google account passwords immediately after this process.
