Android O Top features

Google has announced second beta version of Android O in Google I/O event with lots of features. The Android O only launch its beta version the full version will be released in August. Let's get started with the top new features.
Picture-in-Picture
Google is adding a Picture-in-Picture mode to Android O. With a YouTube video playing, just tap the Home button and the video will pop into a small window that can remain on screen as you navigate other apps on your device. You can slide the video around for best placement, then simply slide it off the screen to terminate. Available now in the Android O Beta.
Notification Dots
Android O users will see a small dot that appears over top of their app icons with active notifications. now that your app has an icon, new tools are available in Long-press the app icon with Notification Dot to get a short list of immediate shortlink actions you can perform. This includes viewing the notification itself right there in a tiny pop-up window. This feature seen the today's iPhone.
Smart Text Selection
We’ve all seen the basic text highlighting features, the copy/paste dialogue in Android, but now there’s more. With Android O, highlighting text includes further features, using Google AI to intelligently act on the words. For instance, if you highlight a phone number, you can just tap to dial. If you highlight an address, a single tap will start navigation. Best of all, highlighting is more intelligent itself, selecting phrases or full addresses, for example, instead of just single words.
Navigation Bar Tuner
Android Marshmallow introduced a hidden menu called the System UI Tuner that let you tweak the appearance of various system icons and menus. Android O has now expanded on the options available here, and perhaps the biggest improvement is that it now allows you to change your on-screen navigation buttons.
If you head to the Navigation Bar menu in System UI Tuner, you'll be able to tweak the layout of your on-screen buttons, and even add a couple extra icons to flank them. Layout options allow you to condense the spacing of the buttons or shift them over to one side, while the "Extra button" option let you add a clipboard button or keyboard switcher to either side of your navigation bar.
Custom Lock Screen Shortcuts
Another great addition to the System UI Tuner is a new lock screen shortcuts menu, which does exactly what you'd think: It lets you add custom shortcuts that will show up in the bottom corners of your lock screen. You can pick any installed app to occupy one of these spaces, and there are several handy shortcuts to choose from, such as one that opens your selfie camera directly.

Dex Station !!!

Samsung DeX

Turn your smartphone into a personal desktop but how? Here The new galaxy s8 and galaxy s8 plus comes with dock station. It’s mean that with the dock station connected to the smartphone, keyboard, mouse and a monitor. A personal android PC is ready. Turn any place into a workplace.

Many companies have tried different method to make the smartphone into a desktop. In 2011 the Motorola Lapdock was the first dock to do this, and provided connections for physical keyboards, a mouse, and other peripherals. Apple then tried to use AirPlay to accomplish something similar, although it acted like little more than screen sharing. Then there was HP’s Elite X3, which ended up coming close with its Desk Dock before also failing to be widely adopted. They all are tried to mirror the screen. But Samsung did the great job introduced the deX station.

The DeX station

DeX works only with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, which is a shame as it would have been nice to have support for older Samsung (and other Android) devices as well. That said, the dock comes with an Ethernet port, two USB ports for connecting peripherals such as a keyboard and mouse, and a HDMI port to connect to your desktop monitor.
The top of the DeX station flips down to reveal the USB Type-C port, where you’ll plug in your Galaxy S8. This also acts as a fan to cool your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus in DeX mode. Also, thanks to the USB Type-C port, it charges your phone at the same time as powering the DeX experience.
It’s not perfect however, as Samsung disables the display on your Galaxy S8 when using DeX, meaning you’re completely reliant on the keyboard and mouse. It would have been nice to be able to use the phone at the same time but this is a trade-off to having the desktop experience.

DeX as a desktop

Samsung DeX has a lot of potential, but in its current form, it’s certainly a little raw. The number of apps compatible with DeX is pretty small, and, short of Microsoft Word, lacking in any depth of quality. At the launch of the Galaxy S8 – where DeX was made official – Samsung confirmed that Adobe would bring Photoshop and Lightroom to DeX, but at the time of writing (a few days before the US release of the Galaxy S8), these apps weren’t available to test.

Of course, you can open all the apps that exist on your Android phone but most retain their mobile equivalents. For example, WhatsApp shows up as mobile (which is to be expected), but pressing the enter key doesn’t send a message, and there’s no keyboard shortcut to do so. This means you have to move the mouse and select the send key every time. Similarly, Google Chrome only displays in mobile mode, and often crashes. If you do want to browse the internet and don’t mind using a different browser, Samsung has optimised its own internet browser to offer the full website experience.
The browsing experience is seemingly on-par with Microsoft’s Edge browser and Google Chrome, although there is a touch of latency when scrolling as DeX seemingly struggles to support resource-intensive websites. When resizing a window, Samsung’s browser does well to resize the content accordingly but to get the full experience (and not a responsive version of the site), you need to go into fullscreen mode before resizing the window down.
Samsung DeX works in a similar way to Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform where the same apps could run in both mobile and desktop depending on whether docked to a PC. DeX takes the same premise but without widespread support for apps, it proves to be a little limited. However, what Samsung does have going for itself is that the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are likely to sell in more volume than most, if not all, of the Lumia Windows Phones that Microsoft managed to shift.
The biggest challenge facing Microsoft at the time was persuading developers to adapt their apps to support UMA, or in most cases, even develop their apps for Windows 10 Mobile in the first place. For Samsung, this should be a much easier bridge to cross. Plus, if the additional development resources required to develop for DeX are minimal – either via ease of software or incentives from the company – we will hopefully see developers flock to adapt their apps for Samsung DeX.

New Chinese 'Fireball' malware

New Chinese 'Fireball' malware infected 250 million computer in India

A Chinese digital marketer is to blame for the spread of malware called Fireball that reportedly has turned 250 million web browsers into ad-revenue generating “zombies” and infected 20 percent of corporate networks around the world.

The malware hijacks browsers and generates revenue for a Beijing-based digital marketing agency called Rafotech, said Check Point Software Technologies, which made the claim in a report published Thursday. Check Point calls this “possibly the largest infection operation in history,” and added that it can be turned into a distributor of any other malware family.

“Fireball has two main functions: the ability of running any code on victim computers–downloading any file or malware, and hijacking and manipulating infected users’ web-traffic to generate ad-revenue,” Check Point said. “Currently, Fireball installs plugins and additional configurations to boost its advertisements, but just as easily it can turn into a prominent distributor for any additional malware.”

Rafotech, according to researchers, is using Fireball to manipulate victims’ browsers to generate money via advertising. Rafotech denies any wrongdoing, Check Point said. Rafotech’s objective is to configure a target’s browser homepage and default search engine with a “fake search engine,” Check Point said. That search engine’s pages would also include tracking pixels, used to collect the users’ private information. User search queries are then redirected to Yahoo or Google.

“Fireball has the ability to spy on victims, perform efficient malware dropping, and execute any malicious code in the infected machines, this creates a massive security flaw in targeted machines and networks,” researchers said.

According to Check Point, victims are infected with Fireball via stealth installs bundled with desirable Rafotech apps such as Deal Wifi, Mustang Browser, Soso Desktop and FVP Imageviewer. Additionally, it has been distributed via third-party freeware and spam campaigns
“It’s important to remember that when a user installs freeware, additional malware isn’t necessarily dropped at the same time. If you download a suspicious freeware and nothing happens on the spot, it doesn’t necessarily mean that something isn’t happening behind the scenes,” Check Point wrote.
Researchers also suspect Rafotech has bought computer installs for Fireball from others known for their questionable download tactics. In what Check Point said was an example of such activity, it provided a screen shot of a solicitation by a user with a @rafotech.com email address on an advertising forum stating “Looking to Buy LOTS of Desktop PPI Traffic/Installs” adding “we are looking for massive volume installs.”
Rafotech’s distribution methods appear to be illegitimate and do not follow standard advertising criteria for it to be considered na├»ve or legal, researchers said. “The malware and the fake search engines don’t carry indicators connecting them to Rafotech, they cannot be uninstalled by an ordinary user, and they conceal their true nature,” they wrote.
Geographically hardest hit, so far, is India with 10 percent of infections, Brazil and Mexico; the United States represents 2.2 percent of infections.

DrnkPay App

An App will stop you to spending money when you're drunk

If you’re the kind of person who goes goes online to buy all kinds of weird things in the early hours of the morning, after an alcohol-fueled night out, you may be interested in a new smartphone app that blocks your credit cards for 12 hours if it thinks you’re too drunk to shop.
DrnkPay is a smartphone app that stops users from making purchases while drunk, which is apparently something people end up regretting. It was developed by UK financial consultancy company iBe TSE, after research found that half of British alcohol drinkers admitted that they regret a purchase made when drunk. The survey that inspired Drnkpay also revealed a few bizarre examples of things bought while intoxicated, like flying lessons, a rowing club lifetime membership for someone who doesn’t row, 30 pairs of flip flops, and even a live chicken.
“This is a problem many of us have encountered, so we decided to create a simple solution which uses the latest technology,” said Francesco Scarnera, CEO of iBe TSE. “Once you’ve hit your self-imposed limit, the app will lock your card and prevent you making further payments. It’s up to you whether to block all payments, or just certain ‘weak points’, such as takeaways, clubs, or that flight that seems like such a great idea at 4am.”
But how does a smartphone app know when you’re drunk, right? Well, that’s what the companion breathalyzer is for. It connects to your smartphone and sends data to the DrnkPay app whenever you blow in it. Once it decides you’ve had too much to drink, it locks your credit cards for 12 hours, which iBe TSE believes is plenty of time to sober up. Some people might have a problem with needing to blow into a breathalyzer in public, so the app also comes with a less conspicuous alternative – a bracelet-like biosensor, which constantly analyses the alcohol content in the user’s bloodstream.
For DrnkPay to work, users obviously have to link their credit/debit cards to the app. They can then set a limit of drinks they wish to have (like 3 pints of beer), and the app will only block the cards if they go over it. Also, the app allows you only block the cards for certain things, like online shopping, bars, food, etc., and also comes with a “Help me out” feature, which calls you an emergency Uber to take you home.

How it works?

01. Users link cards to the DrnkPay app (iOS and Android), then select the number of drinks they wish to have in advance (e.g. 3 pints of beer).

02. The types of payments to block are selected (e.g. bars / pubs, food, flights, online shopping or all categories).

03. All cards are then blocked for 12 hours.

04. A breathalyser, which is connected to the system via bluetooth, is used before each purchase to authorise payment.

05. If the user is under their pre-defined limit, the relevant cards are activated and payments can be made.

06. If the user is over their limit, their cards are blocked and cannot be used.

07. If your cards are all blocked, DrnkPay has a ‘Help me out feature’ allowing you to order an Uber home so you can get home safely.

Samsung S8 and S8+

Samsung Galaxy S8

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is simply gorgeous. Gone is the S7's flat screen, and in its place is a tall, narrow drink of water with twocurved sides. This is a phone that felt at home in my hands when I went hands-on with it for several hours at a journalist briefing in San Francisco. Better even than the LG G6, which has similar proportions but no curved screen, and sleeker than the iPhone 7 Plus, which puts a smaller screen on taller, wider body. For the first time, every major Samsung phone is an "Edge" model, with the Edge and Note's curve-screen software and all.
But elegant as it is in metal and glass, the S8 (and larger S8 Plus) is also the first marquee Samsung phone in a long time that leaves me with uneasy doubts. And those doubts have nothing to do with the disastrous Galaxy Note 7 and everything to do with a couple out-of-place choices and a work-in-progress digital assistant called Bixby, which we also spent some hands-on time with.
Good stuff first. Samsung's redesign makes the S8's 5.8-inch screen absolutely pop. There's no more physical home button, and barely a bezel. That means the screen takes up roughly 83 percent of the phone's face for tapping and viewing. If the S7's display felt generous before, this is positively expansive.

Then there's Bixby, Samsung's answer to Apple's Siri, Google's Assistant and Amazon's Alexa. The three-in-one feature is a mishmash of voice assistant, Google Now cards and Google Goggles optical recognition. It's confusing, limited and, at this admittedly embryonic stage, very incomplete. (More below.) Samsung is asking for patience. This is up in the air right now, but there's a chance that Bixby may not come preloaded on the S8. It might be that you see a prompt to update the software as you set up the phone, but Samsung will give us more details closer to launch. New Bixby capabilities will roll out over time.
